How To Serve In Tennis Properly – Breaking Down The Serve Bit By Bit

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

How to serve in tennis properly is something that is asked a lot by beginners and those playing at club level (and sometimes higher) too. The tennis serve is one of the hardest strokes in tennis to master especially if you have a lack of hand to eye coordination. Unfortunately having a good tennis serve is essential in the sport, without it you will give away needless points to your opponent and give them the upper hand in the game. If you really want to learn how to serve properly then you want to break down the motion bit by bit until it becomes clear.

First Step – Stance

The first part of the tennis serve you should focus on is the stance. Stance and footwork is important so you want to make sure you have it correct. For tennis you should look to have your feet a shoulder width apart, facing your opponent side-on, knees bent and front foot away from the baseline. This stance is used to keep you stable when serving and to give you your power in your serve.

Second Step – The Toss

The toss is the easier part of the motion. All you have to do is toss the ball upwards but something that you may want to do differently is to imagine a small box in front of you where the ball should drop if you miss the serve. This will help you lean into the serve and generate more power.

Third Step – The Serve

This is the hardest part of the serve but if pulled off can make your serve a deadly weapon. By setting up the correct stance you have built up a lot of potential energy which is about to become kinetic energy. As you toss the ball up your racquet should loop up behind your back (like a backscratcher) and as you go to hit the ball your body should unravel (shoulder, arm and hips should turn) and you should explode from your knees giving you that extra power.

Final Step – Follow Through

This is essential because if your opponent returns the ball you need to be ready. When you hit the ball you want to follow through so that it feels like you are about to fall over. At this point stabilise yourself by sticking your lead leg out and this should put you in a good stance ready for the return ball (if the opponent can even hit it back after you’ve read these tips).

The easiest way to learn how to serve in tennis properly is to break things up into baby steps as that is one of the easiest ways to learn. I used to be in the same place where my sloppy serve would give my opponent the upper hand but just by following the simple techniques (video demos) over at FixMyServe.com I managed to develop a serve that DEMANDS respect!

Quick Strategies To Improve Your Bowling Game

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

It may be hard to believe, but there is considerably more to bowling than tossing a ball down the lane to take out the pins at the end. It takes technique and skill to bowl a good game, and any fan of bowling will tell you this. So how do you improve your game? You can become a much better bowler by following a few tips.

Making sure that you have a good grip on your ball is very important. A bad grip will lead to loss of control when trying to release the ball after your approach. You could end up throwing it into the air and never touching the lane – also known as lofting. The ball could end up flying way from the lane by accident. You could end up injured! If you want to have a good grip on your ball you need to make sure that the holes are the perfect size, not too big and not too small. It is important that you are comfortable with the weight of your ball as it is a critical factor. Insert tape is placed on the thumb holes by certain players. The tape allows your thumb a better grip as it features a textured surface. Having something textured to hold on to as you bowl can really help you improve the control you have over the ball itself.

Believe it or not, one important factor in your bowling score is your overall level of fitness. This means that if you bowl regularly, it’s a good idea to work at getting and staying in good physical shape. Many beginners at bowling overlook this fact. There is little doubt that bowling utilizes the muscles of the upper body. Lower body strength also plays a crucial role in your bowling game. If you let your physical health slide you will throw your entire game out of whack. Going to the fitness center regularly is not only good for your health, but for your bowling score.

How much power you put behind the ball is also an important factor. Many individuals use a lot of strength when they throw the bowling ball. But some just put a little strength behind their toss and get the results they want. Many people find they have better control of how the ball travels if they don’t heft it very hard. There are a lot of different techniques to master as you learn how to become a great bowler. It is important to remember to keep trying. If you let yourself get psyched out, you could adversely affect your performance. Always remember to keep a positive outlook and to remember that practice can, indeed, make perfect-especially as you are learning to be a better bowler.

Boise State Football

Rise To Success

Where’s Boise State? What’s a Bronco? Who’s this football team? Well, we all know now. A team that has won 9 conference championships over the past 11 years. A team from the WAC(Western Athletic Conference). A team from a conference that hadn’t exactly been a juggernaut in previous years.

However, the football program became really well know beginning with the 2006 season. 3 perfect seasons over a 5 year time span. Somebody awoke this sleeping giant. Maybe it was the critics saying they had no competition. A team with a definite advantage when playing on their home turf. Not losing a home game in about 5 years. That’s hard for any team to accomplish but this is Boise State we’re talking about here.

The football program has experienced 3 undefeated regular seasons out of the past 5 years. A lot of the critics say this is due to lack of competition. Boise also has a considerable home field advantage as well. They won 31 straight home games dating from 2001-2005. The home streak was ended by Boston College back on December 28, 2005.

Perfect Season #1

Could a team like Boise rise to the top? Could a Bronco team actually go undefeated? Well, this happened back in the 2006 college football season. A season which saw a non-BCS school catapult themselves into greatness.

Actually having a season better than the so-called powerhouse football programs. A season in which nobody could beat them. Not even the mighty Sooners. A bowl game victory that was quite possibly the most exciting bowl game ever. They might have only won by one-point but it was against Oklahoma!

You just had a team from a lesser conference finish with a better record than any other power school in college football. This performance by Boise State had fans all over the nation starting to notice this once silent football team. They’re not silent anymore!

Another Unblemished Campaign

How could this football program once unknown have an even better season than 2006? How could they beat 13 wins & a perfect record? Well, how about getting one more win & again not losing a single game. This is what happened during the 2009 campaign for the Broncos. Only three after another undefeated season the Broncos were at it again.

Odd Looking Home Field

What does traditional mean in this case? It means something that we’re grown accustomed to over time. Well, in this case can you say “blue”? Boise State football plays home games on what’s called a Field Turf. The odd thing is the turf is not the color we’re used to watching games played on. All other college football games are played on a green colored surface. However, Boise chose to color their field blue back in 1986. It hasn’t changed colors since. It may look weird to us but the fans of the Broncos have been doing this for nearly a quarter of a century. I wonder if they feel they’re watching the “Smurfs”?
